کے بارے میں

Altın Mekân, whose name translates as 'The Golden Place', is one of the mid-scale Turkish restaurants in central Ankara that occupies the comfortable middle ground between the plain working-class lokanta and the formal establishments of the upper city. The dining room is carpeted and warmly lit, with upholstered chairs, framed calligraphy on the walls, and an altar-like dessert counter displaying baklava, künefe, and trays of sütlaç and kazandibi. The menu ranges across the classical repertoire of Turkish cuisine: mezze of haydari, ezme, patlıcan salata, and çoban; grilled meats of kuzu şiş, adana, beyti, and pirzola; slow-cooked stews and casseroles; pide and lahmacun from the wood oven; and a section of freshwater and sea fish for those who prefer the lighter option. All meat is halal and no alcohol is served, a choice that has made Altın Mekân a favourite for family gatherings, wedding parties, religious anniversaries, and quiet business lunches in which the presence of alcohol would be out of place. Service is formal but warm, and the waiters are adept at guiding first-time visitors through the longer sections of the menu. The restaurant is especially busy during the iftars of Ramadan, when a special set menu is prepared and reservations are essential. Vegetables are sourced from local producers, bread is baked on-site several times a day, and the kitchen is run by a chef trained in the traditional Turkish craft who has been with the establishment for many years. The dining room's chief calligraphic panel, mounted above the entrance to the main hall, carries the familiar verse from Sūrat al-Aʿrāf urging the believers to eat and drink of the good things and to thank God for them — a quietly appropriate choice for a restaurant that takes its obligation to feed its guests well as a form of gratitude for the bounty it has been entrusted to serve. For visitors to Ankara seeking a meal that is unmistakably Turkish, generous in portion, faithful to Islamic dietary norms, and suitable for companions of every age, Altın Mekân offers a dependable and memorable experience, and the glass of tea at the end of the meal is of course compliments of the house.
