کے بارے میں

Overlooking the historic port of Aden at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, the Masjid al Asqalani, also lovingly called al Bayhani, carries the names of two esteemed scholarly lineages whose teachings shaped generations of Yemeni worshippers. The al Bayhani family produced Sheikh Muhammad Salim al Bayhani, a twentieth century scholar of Aden whose lessons in Qur'anic exegesis, Arabic grammar, and fiqh drew students from every corner of the British Aden Protectorate. The al Asqalani name recalls the great hadith master Ibn Hajar al Asqalani, born in Cairo in 773 of the Hijri and author of the monumental Fath al Bari commentary on Sahih al Bukhari, a work studied across the Muslim world to this day.

Aden is among the most ancient trading cities of Arabia. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, sent Muadh ibn Jabal and Ali ibn Abi Talib, may God be pleased with them, to teach Islam in Yemen, and its people accepted the faith quickly, earning the blessing that faith is Yemeni and wisdom is Yemeni. The city's volcanic Crater district, built inside the cone of an extinct volcano, sheltered Arab, Indian, Swahili, and Gujarati merchants for centuries, and mosques such as this one grew from the small prayer rooms of those traders.

The building reflects the Adeni coastal style. Thick whitewashed walls, deep window recesses, a single short minaret, a low domed prayer hall, and carved wooden doors from the teak trade with Kerala keep the interior cool against the fierce summer heat. Inside, woven reed mats and soft carpets cover the floor, and calligraphic panels recall verses of remembrance.

Accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at Masjid al Asqalani appear on this page, together with the Aden address, a map pin, and hospitable notes for visitors approaching from Crater, Ma'alla, or the cooler heights of Khormaksar. During Ramadan the congregation shares bowls of aseedah, fatah, and sweet sahlab prepared by neighbouring families, while tarawih evenings fill the hall with voices shaped by the old Adeni school of recitation. Any traveller pausing between the ancient cisterns of Tawila and the cool sea breeze of the corniche is welcome to step inside, to pray beside the patient worshippers of a wounded but still generous city, and to offer a quiet prayer for steadfastness, safety, and relief upon the believers of Yemen in every town, every village, and every lonely fishing hamlet along their long and storied coast.
