کے بارے میں

Surrounded by the arid plains of southern Algeria near the oasis town of Aflou in Laghouat province, the Khilafah al Ammah lil Tariqah al Tijaniyyah bi Ayn Madi, the General Caliphate of the Tijani Way at Ayn Madi, anchors one of the most celebrated spiritual traditions of the western Muslim world. The Tijaniyyah was founded in the late eighteenth century by Shaikh Ahmad al Tijani, born in Ayn Madi in 1737 into a family of respected scholars, who after long travels through the Maghrib and the Hijaz established in this oasis the first centre of a spiritual path that would eventually spread across West Africa, North Africa, the Sudanic belt, and beyond, counting millions of followers today from Morocco to Senegal and from Nigeria to Indonesia.

Ayn Madi itself is a small oasis in the Laghouat province, surrounded by date palm groves watered by springs, with distinctive mud and stone architecture typical of the northern Sahara. The zawiyah of the founder, which includes the family home, the mosque, the tomb of Shaikh Ahmad al Tijani, and guesthouses for visiting disciples, has long been a destination for travellers from across the western Muslim world, who come to recite the prescribed litanies, sit for a time in the presence of the spiritual lineage, and take counsel from the descendants who preserve the tradition.

The prayer hall is built in the Saharan vernacular, with thick walls of earth and stone, low domes of brick and plaster, and carved wooden doors. Inside, the carpets are patterned in red and cream, the mihrab is framed by calligraphic panels quoting the Qur'an and the beloved poetry of the tradition, and a wooden minbar stands beside it. Shelves hold copies of the Qur'an, the tradition's devotional manuals, and biographies of Shaikh Ahmad al Tijani and of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and his companions, may God be pleased with them.

Daily prayers gather residents of the oasis, students visiting for short retreats, and pilgrims from West Africa travelling to sit briefly in the shadow of the founder's tomb. Friday khutbahs are delivered in classical Arabic. Precise daily prayer times at this historic centre are published on this page alongside address, directions, and a respectful welcome to every traveller reaching Ayn Madi.
