کے بارے میں

Along the date palm canals of al Hayy in the Iraqi province of Wasit rises the shrine of the noble tabi Said ibn Jubayr al Asadi, peace be upon him, a beloved scholar of the generation that followed the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Wasit itself was founded around 702 by the Umayyad governor al Hajjaj ibn Yusuf as a garrison halfway between Basra and Kufa, a strategic position from which the lands of Iraq could be administered. The province sits amid the fertile riverine plain watered by the Tigris, a region that has cradled civilisations from ancient Sumer and Akkad to the Abbasid caliphs of Baghdad.

Said ibn Jubayr was born around 665 in Kufa and became one of the foremost students of Abdullah ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with both of them. Ibn Abbas, the learned cousin of the Messenger, transferred to Said an ocean of tafsir, fiqh, and hadith. Contemporary scholars considered Said among the most knowledgeable men of his generation, and his opinions in the exegesis of the Qur'an are still cited in the classical commentaries of al Tabari and Ibn Kathir. He was martyred in 714 by order of al Hajjaj ibn Yusuf after refusing to withdraw his criticism of the governor's injustice, making him a beloved symbol of scholarly courage in the face of tyranny.

The shrine that grew over his blessed resting place has long been a site of quiet pilgrimage for Iraqi families seeking blessings through the example of a noble tabi whose sincerity sealed his life with martyrdom. The building carries the characteristic Iraqi style of a green tiled dome, decorative mirror work, calligraphic panels, and a surrounding courtyard where benches and palm shade welcome weary visitors after long bus rides from distant provinces.

Inside the shrine, the tomb is protected by a wooden zarih, and worshippers recite fatihah, send salawat upon the Messenger, and offer supplications for their families, their country, and the wider ummah. Daily prayer timings for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha are kept updated on this page alongside the al Hayy address, a clear map pin, and considerate tips for visitors approaching from Kut, Numaniyah, or the highways from Baghdad and Nasiriyah. Ramadan nights fill the courtyard with iftar tables of samoon, kubba, masgouf, and sweet zlabia. Pilgrims reaching this sacred corner of Wasit are welcomed with the deep hospitality of southern Iraq, invited to read two rakats beside the tomb, and encouraged to ask Almighty God to grant the blessed martyr the highest station beside the prophets and the truthful.
