সম্পর্কে

Dedicated to Sheikh Muhammad al Kabir Al Abi Khamsin, may God have mercy on him, this mosque in Al Hufuf within the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia honours a respected scholar of the Al Ahsa region, one of the oldest and largest oasis settlements in the Arabian peninsula. Al Ahsa, of which Hufuf serves as the principal town, has been inhabited for thousands of years and supports enormous date palm groves irrigated by ancient springs that rise from deep aquifers beneath the desert. UNESCO recognised the Al Ahsa oasis as a World Heritage Site for its remarkable cultural landscape combining traditional agriculture, historic settlements, and archaeological sites reaching back through successive civilisations. The region's Muslim community includes long established families whose scholarly traditions have contributed to the wider Islamic world across generations. Eastern Province mosque architecture blends Najdi traditional elements with Gulf coastal influences, producing mosques that feature plain rendered walls, carved wooden doors, modest domes, and square or octagonal minarets. This mosque named for Sheikh Muhammad al Kabir follows regional character, its dignified exterior welcoming worshippers from surrounding residential and commercial streets. Inside, the carpeted prayer hall accommodates a substantial congregation across separate men's and women's sections, with a mihrab faced in carved limestone or inlaid marble, a wooden minbar, and inscriptions of Qur'anic verses running in elegant script along the upper walls. Five daily prayers gather neighbours arriving on foot, and Jumu'ah fills the hall. Sermons in classical Arabic address Qur'anic themes, hadith guidance, and the rich scholarly heritage that Al Ahsa has cultivated. Ramadan transforms the mosque calendar with communal iftar gatherings featuring Al Ahsa specialities including hasawi rice, jireesh, thareed, dates from the surrounding groves, and sweet pastries. Taraweeh prayers extend the evenings with the imam completing the Qur'an across the month. Qur'anic memorisation classes for children and adults run throughout the year. Women worship in dedicated sections. Nearby attractions include the Al Qara mountain and its remarkable caves, the Ibrahim Palace, the Jawatha Mosque believed to be one of the oldest in the region, the Qaisariah Souq, and the enormous date palm groves that define the oasis landscape.
