کے بارے میں

Al Khankah, the Qalyubiyya town whose name derives from the Persian khanqah, a hospice where travelling scholars and teachers once lodged, preserves on its eastern edge a mosque honouring the memory of Colonel Hisham Husni, an Egyptian fighter pilot whose martyrdom in the line of duty earned him the titles shahid, martyr, aqid, colonel, and tayyar, aviator. Naming mosques after fallen military officers is a practice familiar across the Arab republics whose twentieth century histories included major wars with Israel and internal security operations, and the naming preserves local memory of those who gave their lives. Qalyubiyya governorate lies immediately north of Cairo, its fields forming part of the old Nile delta agricultural core whose villages have produced some of Egypt's most celebrated religious scholars, qari and poets across the centuries. The town of al Khankah itself traces its name to a Mamluk era hospice built by Sultan al Mansur Qalawun in the thirteenth century for Qur'an teachers, and the surrounding district retains a dense weave of mosques, shrines and small madrasahs. Architecturally the martyrs' mosque follows a contemporary Egyptian provincial style, combining a concrete framed prayer hall clad in cream sandstone, a single dome raised on an octagonal drum, a slender minaret finished in pale tile and a forecourt paved in warm stone. Inside, the mihrab is framed by carved gypsum work in the manner of old Cairo, the mimbar rises in three timber steps and the carpet is laid in deep green patterned with gold medallions. A dedicated women's section opens from a side entrance, and the wudu facilities stand in a shaded arcade. Daily prayers gather the neighbourhood, the Jumu'ah sermon is delivered in classical Arabic with Egyptian colloquial passages and Ramadan evenings bring iftar of ful medames, tameya, stuffed vine leaves, qatayef and Egyptian koshari. Eid mornings fill the forecourt with families in bright galabiyyas, children clutching new toys and elders distributing small coins. Visitors should dress modestly, leave shoes on the angled racks and silence mobile devices before entering. Nearby lie Cairo's Khan al Khalili bazaar, the Al Azhar complex founded by the Fatimids, the twelfth dynasty pyramids of Dahshur and the delta town of Banha beyond.
