Anakadın Camii

Anakadın Camii — the 'Mother Mosque' — bears a name unusual among Turkish mosques, literally 'mother-woman', and most likely refers to a particularly revered female benefactor whose memory the congregation has chosen to honour, or to a broader symbolic gesture toward the pivotal role of women in the transmission of faith within the Turkish Muslim family.
