کے بارے میں

Tucked into the Taman Tunku Puan Chik housing estate in the Bahau town of Negeri Sembilan state in central Peninsular Malaysia, the Surau and Village Library of Taman Tunku Puan Chik combines the functions of a prayer hall and a community library, an imaginative pairing that links the spiritual life of worship with the intellectual life of reading. Such combined facilities reflect the Malaysian government's interest in promoting reading habits alongside religious practice, and they serve the residents of housing estates by placing both resources within easy walking distance of family homes. The name Tunku Puan Chik carries the honorific of Malay royalty and commemorates a noble woman associated with the estate. Negeri Sembilan itself is distinctive among the states of the Malay peninsula for its adat perpatih, the matrilineal customary law brought from Minangkabau lands in West Sumatra by migrants who settled the region from the fifteenth century onwards, producing a unique synthesis of Malay Islamic culture with matriarchal social structures. Bahau is a small town in the Jempol district, once an important stop along the north south railway line, surrounded by oil palm plantations and rubber estates. Architecturally the surau typically occupies a modern functional building with a tiered roof reminiscent of traditional Malay architecture adapted for contemporary construction, a small minaret or speaker tower, an ablution area with individual taps, and a carpeted prayer hall. The adjoining library holds collections of Malay, Arabic, and English titles covering Quranic recitation, fiqh, the biography of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, the lives of the Companions, may God be pleased with them, Malaysian history, and children's literature. Daily prayers are observed by residents of the estate, Ramadan brings nightly taraweeh and communal iftar, and the two Eid mornings see joyful gatherings followed by open house hospitality that is a cherished Malaysian tradition. Regular children's classes held after school hours teach Quran recitation and basic Islamic knowledge, while reading clubs meet weekly to discuss books borrowed from the library shelves. Bahau shoppers often drop in during the afternoon to both return a library book and offer the asr prayer before continuing towards the town market.
