کے بارے میں
High among the mountain passes of Turkey's far eastern Van province, in the town of Baskale where the Kurdish population of the region preserves ancient traditions alongside a lively Islamic life, the Hasanbey Mahalle Iskender Ertus Camii serves the residents of its neighbourhood, the name combining the local quarter of Hasanbey with the honoured memory of Iskender Ertus. Van itself is one of the most historically layered provinces of Anatolia, its lake the largest in Turkey and its heritage encompassing Urartian citadels, medieval Armenian churches, and centuries of Islamic building under the Seljuks, the Aq Qoyunlu, and the Ottomans. Baskale sits at high altitude on the route linking Van city with the Iranian border at Kapikoy, amid pastures grazed by sheep and summer meadows blooming with wildflowers. The Kurdish and Turkish residents of the town observe the devotional life common to Islamic communities of eastern Anatolia, structured around the five daily prayers, the Friday gathering, and the great festivals. Architecturally the mosque reflects the practical vernacular of eastern Anatolian camiis, built of stone walls to withstand harsh winters, a single minaret with the classical Ottoman form of sherefe balcony and pencil thin spire, a shallow dome over the prayer hall, and a covered portico for shedding snow laden overcoats before entry. The mihrab is carved in locally quarried stone and adorned with calligraphic panels of the shahadatayn and verses from Surah Al e Imran. Men pray in the main hall while women gather in an upper gallery. Jumu'ah khutbahs are delivered in Turkish, often with interpretative support in Kurdish, and the five daily prayers follow the schedule printed by the Diyanet Islik Isleri Baskanligi. Ramadan fills the mosque each night with teravih prayers and mukabele readings of the Quran, while the two Bayram mornings see joyful congregations followed by family visits across the snowy or sun warmed lanes of Baskale. Travellers passing between Van and Iran find in this camii a warm shelter of faith. Weary shepherds returning from high summer pastures still kick the snow from their boots and step gratefully into its warmly carpeted prayer hall.
