About
Set beside the paddy fields of Baraish village in the Belonia subdivision of South Tripura in north east India, the Baraish Paschim Para Masjid gathers worshippers from the small Bengali Muslim community that has lived on this side of the Feni river for many generations. Tripura is a hilly state bordering Bangladesh on three sides, and its history stretches back through the princely Manikya dynasty whose rulers patronised art, literature, and religious tolerance for many centuries. Muslim settlement in Tripura intensified after the partition of Bengal, and today small communities live alongside Tripuri, Reang, and Bengali Hindu neighbours across the lush countryside. Muslim life in the district draws its strength from the inspired traditions of medieval Bengal, shaped by teachers such as Shah Jalal of Sylhet (may God have mercy on him) whose descendants and pupils carried the faith across the forests and rivers of the eastern subcontinent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is loved in every home here through recitation of the Qur'an, the chanting of naats praising the Messenger, and the warm hospitality that marks every Muslim household during the blessed nights of Ramadan and the joyful days of Eid. The building itself reflects the practical style of rural Bengali village mosques. A whitewashed exterior painted gently with pale green stripes around the doors and windows, a small central dome flanked by four corner minarets topped with crescents, a tiled floor ready to be covered by donated carpets during the winter, and a simple mihrab painted in soft colours create the atmosphere. Outside, a mango tree and a jackfruit tree shade the ablution pond where villagers wash before every prayer. Daily prayer times for the Baraish Paschim Para Masjid in Belonia, its address, a location map, and visitor notes are listed on this page for village residents, travellers from the state capital of Agartala, and visitors crossing the border from Bangladesh along the old trade routes of the eastern subcontinent. Tripura is known for the Ujjayanta Palace, the unique rock cut sculptures of Unakoti, and the peaceful lake temples of Neer Mahal. After Maghrib, worshippers at this rural mosque often linger by the pond to share handfuls of puffed rice and small cups of sweet milky tea prepared by neighbouring families, carrying the quiet dignity of Bengali village faith into every gentle evening.
