کے بارے میں
Named after the first caliph and truest friend of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, the Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique Jame Mosque in Chittagong invokes the example of Abu bakr as Siddiq, may the Almighty favour him, whose unwavering loyalty and quiet generosity remain an inspiration for worshippers who gather within its walls. A jame mosque in Bangladeshi parlance serves as the principal Friday assembly point for its neighbourhood, and the port city of Chittagong is studded with hundreds of such buildings serving its three million residents. Chittagong's Islamic heritage dates to the earliest centuries of Muslim presence in Bengal, when Arab and Persian merchants anchored their dhows at the mouth of the Karnaphuli River, and later received impetus from the preaching of saintly figures such as Pir Badr Shah, may God have mercy upon him, whose shrine remains a pilgrimage point for sailors seeking safe voyage. The regional architectural tradition of Chittagong combines tropical pragmatism with an inherited Mughal vocabulary, producing mosques with whitewashed walls, onion shaped domes, octagonal corner turrets, and deep shaded verandahs that shelter worshippers from the monsoon rains pouring down from the neighbouring hill tracts. This mosque hosts five daily prayers that draw fishermen, dock workers, merchants and students in turn, a very large Friday assembly whose khutbah is delivered in Bangla and interspersed with Arabic quotations from the Qur'an and sunnah, intense tarawih prayers across the Ramadan nights while Eid gatherings that spill out onto surrounding lanes as families embrace in their new clothes. Qur'an memorisation classes run through the year, and the mosque occasionally hosts community mediation sessions for disputes over inheritance and marriage. Travellers visiting Patenga Beach, the ship breaking yards or the hill town of Bandarban further east will find this mosque a fitting pause on their Chittagong itinerary. During cyclone season the mosque transforms into an emergency shelter, its courtyards filling with displaced families from vulnerable coastal wards, and volunteer medical teams set up temporary clinics under its shaded verandahs until storm waters safely recede and neighbourhoods can be rebuilt under the patient supervision of local committees.
