کے بارے میں
Gracing the port city of Chittagong in southeastern Bangladesh, Hazrat Neyamat Ali Shah Jame Masjid honours a beloved spiritual figure whose name is still spoken with affection across the hills and riverbanks of the region. Chittagong, whose Bengali name Chottogram carries ancient echoes of a busy trading delta, has been a gateway to the Indian Ocean world for more than a thousand years. Arab and Persian merchants visited its shores long before the arrival of Portuguese sailors in the sixteenth century, and the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, is said to have pointed towards the east when describing lands whose people would accept Islam, a tradition cherished in the oral heritage of Bengali Muslims.
Islam took firm root in Bengal during the thirteenth century with the arrival of the saint Bakhtiyar Khalji and a succession of travelling darweshes, poets, and teachers who settled along the rivers of Bengal and taught through songs, parables, and acts of compassion rather than conquest. Figures such as Shah Jalal of Sylhet, Khan Jahan Ali of Bagerhat, and Shah Amanat of Chittagong became beloved by Hindu and Muslim neighbours alike. Naming a jame masjid after Hazrat Neyamat Ali Shah continues this deeply Bengali custom of honouring a local wali whose du'as shaped the spiritual atmosphere of his surroundings.
Architecturally the building reflects the characteristic Bengali mosque style of whitewashed walls, multiple slender minarets, a central dome flanked by smaller domes, and green trim around the arches. Inside, patterned mats and carpets cover the floor, a simple wooden minbar rises beside a calligraphic mihrab, and wide lattice windows admit the humid monsoon breeze along with the call of distant rickshaw bells. A courtyard well or modern wudu area accommodates the congregation before each salah.
Current prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at the masjid are kept up to date on this page alongside its Chittagong address, a clear map pin, and friendly notes for visitors arriving from Patenga beach, Shah Amanat International Airport, or the old Portuguese quarter of Paterghata. Ramadan evenings fill the forecourt with iftar platters of muri, piyaju, jilapi, and sweet milky firni generously shared by neighbours. Travellers pausing between the tea gardens of Sitakunda and the Chittagong Hill Tracts are welcomed with gentle Bengali courtesy, invited to stand in the cool interior for two rakats, and lovingly encouraged to whisper fatihah for the departed saint whose baraka still drifts softly across his city.
