Rising in the northern metropolitan suburb of Columbia Heights in the American state of Minnesota, the Islamic Cultural Community Center, also known as Masjid al Huda, gathers a multicultural congregation whose members trace their origins to east Africa, the Middle East, south Asia, and the indigenous American communities of the upper Midwest. The Arabic name al Huda, meaning the guidance, echoes the opening chapter of the Holy Qur'an, in which every worshipper prays to be led along the straight path, and conveys the central hope of the community that the mosque may serve as a lasting beacon of guidance for believers and seekers alike.

Minnesota is famous across the United States for its cold winters, its ten thousand lakes, and the remarkable Somali American community that has made the Twin Cities its largest diaspora home outside of the Horn of Africa. Somali families began to arrive in significant numbers during the early 1990s, fleeing civil war and seeking the peace and opportunity offered by the welcoming cold weather cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Alongside them, Oromo, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Yemeni, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and American born Muslim families have built a vibrant shared religious and civic life.

The centre building provides a spacious prayer hall for daily salahs and Jumu'ah, an educational wing for the weekend Qur'an school, a community kitchen that prepares iftar meals during Ramadan, and meeting rooms for women's halaqat, marriage counselling, youth groups, and social services. The khutbah is delivered in English, with Qur'anic verses and salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, offered in classical Arabic. Volunteer teachers guide children in tajwid, seerah, and the study of Islamic etiquette across every age group.
