کے بارے میں

Continuing an older tradition of religious scholarship that once flourished in the gardens of Darayya southwest of Damascus, Masjid wa Mujamma Abi Muslim al Khawlani al Jadid carries the name of the celebrated tabi'i Abu Muslim al Khawlani, may God be pleased with him, a Yemeni scholar renowned for his piety, his preserved miracles, and his refusal to praise the unjust. Darayya has been famous for centuries as a centre of scholarship, agriculture, and the cultivation of fruit, and it was there that Abu Muslim al Khawlani, may God be pleased with him, settled after the early Muslim conquests and gathered students who carried his teachings across Bilad al Sham. The modern complex, indicated by the word al Jadid meaning the new one, was built to accommodate a growing population, and combines a large prayer hall with classrooms, a library, and meeting halls for the wider community. Rif Dimashq, the countryside around Damascus, has been deeply scarred by the long Syrian conflict, and the rebuilding of religious and community institutions has become a quiet act of hope for the surviving residents. The masjid's architecture blends Syrian tradition with practical modern construction, with a large central dome on a high drum, four slender minarets at the corners, interior walls panelled in local basalt and white marble, and a broad mihrab lined with calligraphy. The prayer hall is covered in deep blue carpets, and a women's gallery above the entrance allows sisters to attend lessons and prayers in comfort. Daily congregations are returning gradually, and Jumu'ah gathers a larger crowd, with the khutbah delivered in classical Arabic. Ramadan brings nightly taraweeh, communal iftars featuring mulukhiyah, shawarma, and Damascene sweets, and Qur'an completion ceremonies. The complex also offers Qur'an memorisation classes for children, lessons on the biographies of the tabi'in, and charitable food distribution. Respectful attire and patience during movement are appreciated, and visitors should remember the weight of recent history in every greeting exchanged. The library preserves handwritten notes and photocopies of early manuscripts attributed to the celebrated tabi'i Abu Muslim al Khawlani, along with works on Damascene scholarly history, and the complex hosts occasional gatherings for families of the fallen who lost sons and brothers during the long conflict, offering quiet companionship and Qur'an recitation for those whose grief remains very fresh after so many difficult years.
