کے بارے میں

Along Ford Road in Dearborn, just west of Detroit, the Islamic Center of America rises with a silvered dome and twin minarets that can be seen from the nearby highway, marking one of the largest mosques on the North American continent. The congregation itself traces its origins to 1963, when Lebanese and Iraqi families who had arrived to work in the automotive plants founded a small prayer house in a modest building downtown. As the community grew into one of the most concentrated gatherings of Muslims anywhere in the United States, plans for a monumental purpose built centre began to take shape, and the present structure was completed and inaugurated in 2005 after many years of steady donations from worshippers across Michigan, Ohio, and beyond.

The main prayer hall stretches beneath a central dome nearly thirty metres high, its interior lined with calligraphic friezes, a carved wooden minbar, and a mihrab framed in honey coloured marble. A tiered women's gallery runs along the upper level, while the lower floors house classrooms, a gymnasium, a wedding hall, a youth centre, and offices for the imam and administrative staff. The site also contains a large cemetery that serves families across southeastern Michigan, ensuring that the generations who built the community can rest near the dome they dreamed of, their grandchildren tending the grounds every spring.

Programmes at the centre span Quran memorisation for children, marriage counselling, chaplaincy training, interfaith dialogue with churches and synagogues across metropolitan Detroit, and public lectures that carefully weave classical scholarship with the realities of American civic life. Sermons return again and again toward the blessed biography of our master, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and also honour his righteous household and the companions, may God be pleased with them, who walked in his footsteps as models of patience, generosity, and neighbourly conduct.

During the month of Ramadan the hall fills each evening with thousands for the taraweeh prayers, and the adjoining plaza transforms into a communal iftar where neighbours of every background share dates and warm meals after sunset. Visitors are regularly welcomed on guided tours, and the centre has hosted presidents, ambassadors, and faith leaders from across the world. Few buildings express so fully the arrival of Islam as a durable part of the American religious landscape, rooted in immigrant labour, family life, and the quiet rhythm of daily prayer.
