کے بارے میں

Central Mosque Egbeda serves the town of Egbeda, a community in Oyo State just outside Ibadan which has historically served as a local centre for agriculture, trade, and Yoruba Muslim religious life. Egbeda, like many of the towns in the Ibadan region, has a strong Muslim identity rooted in centuries of Islamic influence among the Yoruba people of southwestern Nigeria. The Central Mosque functions as the principal venue for congregational worship in the town, hosting the Friday Jumuah prayer that draws worshippers from across Egbeda and surrounding villages, and serving as the venue for the major Eid prayers that gather the entire Muslim community in festive celebration. The structure typically features a prominent dome or domes, a tall minaret, an expansive forecourt for peak attendance, and a substantial interior prayer hall carpeted and oriented toward the qibla. A dignified mihrab indicates the direction of Makkah and a finely crafted wooden mimbar stands beside it from which the khatib delivers the Friday khutbah in Yoruba and Arabic. A separate women's section ensures full participation by sisters, and ablution facilities sized for peak demand serve the worshippers on Fridays and at Eid. The imam of the central mosque holds a position of significant community leadership, often consulted on matters of marriage, inheritance, dispute mediation, and religious guidance. Programmes include the five daily prayers, Friday Jumuah, Qur'an and tajwid classes for children and adults, Islamic studies in the Maliki tradition, Arabic language instruction, marriage solemnisation, funeral rites, zakat distribution, and welfare services for needy families. Ramadan brings the mosque to its fullest expression with overflow tarawih prayers, community iftars featuring Yoruba Muslim specialties, Qur'an khatm sessions, and itikaf during the blessed final ten nights. Eid prayers gather the entire town in festive attire for communal worship and celebration. The close connection between Egbeda and Ibadan means that Central Mosque Egbeda worshippers often travel to the larger Ibadan mosques for major lectures, scholarly events, and distinguished visits, while also welcoming reciprocal visits from Ibadan imams and students, creating a flow of religious life and learning between the town and the metropolis that enriches both communities and keeps Egbeda's Muslim life connected to the wider currents of Nigerian Islamic scholarship.
