کے بارے میں

Alasalatu Irorun Oluwa Central Mosque in Ibadan bears a name drawn from a distinctive Yoruba Muslim movement, Alasalatu, which refers to a communal practice of sending salawat, the formal invocation of blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam, sung collectively by groups of worshippers often with accompanying poetry, rhythm, and spiritual ecstasy. The Alasalatu movement emerged within Yoruba Muslim society in the mid twentieth century and spread widely, combining classical Islamic devotion with indigenous Yoruba musical and poetic expression to create a distinctive form of Muslim communal worship. Irorun Oluwa translates from Yoruba as the tranquility of the Lord, expressing the spiritual peace that participants find in the rhythmic remembrance of Allah and His Messenger. Mosques affiliated with the Alasalatu tradition serve as centres for this practice alongside the standard programme of Islamic worship. The mosque serves its Ibadan community with the five daily prayers, Friday Jumuah gathering, Qur'an and tajwid classes, Islamic studies, Arabic language instruction, marriage solemnisation, funeral rites, zakat distribution, and welfare services, as well as the distinctive Alasalatu gatherings that typically occur on designated evenings during the week and with particular intensity during Ramadan and around the mawlid of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam. The prayer hall is carpeted and oriented toward the qibla with mihrab, mimbar, separate women's section, and ablution facilities. During Alasalatu sessions the congregation gathers to sing salawat poems in Yoruba and Arabic with rhythmic percussion and ecstatic participation, drawing spiritual benefit from collective remembrance. Ramadan brings nightly tarawih prayers, community iftars, Qur'an khatm, and itikaf in the blessed final ten nights, while mawlid celebrations draw large crowds of devotees honouring the Prophet in the distinctive Alasalatu Yoruba style. The Alasalatu tradition is considered by its adherents a distinctively Yoruba Muslim contribution to global Islamic devotional life, a way of expressing love for the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam that draws on the musical and poetic resources of the Yoruba cultural heritage while remaining firmly grounded in classical Islamic devotional content, and mosques like Alasalatu Irorun Oluwa serve as guardians and cultivators of this precious spiritual heritage across generations.
