کے بارے میں

Ibadan Central Mosque stands as one of the most significant Muslim landmarks of the ancient Yoruba city, functioning as the principal congregational mosque for the chief imam of Ibadan and a focal point for major Islamic observances across the metropolis. Ibadan, with a population exceeding three million and a history stretching back to the early nineteenth century as a Yoruba military refuge that grew into a major regional power, hosts one of the largest urban Muslim populations in sub Saharan Africa, and its Central Mosque reflects the scale and dignity of that community. The mosque structure is typically substantial, featuring prominent domes, tall minarets visible across the surrounding neighbourhoods, an expansive forecourt capable of accommodating the huge crowds that gather for Eid prayers and other major festivals, and a grand interior prayer hall carpeted and oriented toward the qibla. The hall is decorated with Arabic calligraphy drawn from the noble Qur'an and the beautiful names of Allah, supported by columns and arches in a dignified architectural style, and fitted with a beautifully inscribed mihrab and an imposing wooden mimbar from which the chief imam delivers the Friday khutbah. A separate women's section accommodates sisters, and ablution halls are sized to handle peak demand. The chief imam of Ibadan holds a position of significant religious and social authority, with the Central Mosque serving as his seat and the venue from which major announcements to the Muslim community are made. Programmes include the five daily prayers, Friday Jumuah, Qur'an and tajwid classes, advanced Islamic studies including Maliki jurisprudence and tafsir, Arabic language instruction, marriage solemnisation, funeral rites, zakat collection and distribution, and welfare services. Ramadan at Ibadan Central Mosque is a time of magnificent activity with overflow tarawih crowds, community iftars feeding hundreds, Qur'an khatm sessions, and itikaf during the final ten nights. Ibadan Central Mosque occupies a cherished place in the civic imagination of the city, with its silhouette featured in postcards, tourist literature, and civic publications as an iconic symbol of Ibadan alongside the famous Mapo Hall, Bower's Tower, and the University of Ibadan gate, and locals take pride in directing visitors to the mosque as one of the essential sights that capture the character of this historic Yoruba city.
