کے بارے میں

Pelusheriki Mosque in Ibadan serves a local neighbourhood Muslim community with devotion and simplicity, its name reflecting the Yoruba linguistic heritage of the region. Ibadan, historically a major pre colonial Yoruba city state whose military prowess shaped the nineteenth century Yoruba wars and whose commercial importance continued through the colonial and post colonial eras, contains hundreds of mosques serving its densely populated neighbourhoods. Many of these mosques are named after specific streets, families, or localities within the city, and Pelusheriki Mosque falls within this tradition of neighbourhood specific institutions that serve as focal points for the spiritual and social life of their immediate communities. The structure is typical of Nigerian neighbourhood mosques, featuring a prayer hall carpeted and oriented toward the qibla, a mihrab, a mimbar for the Friday khutbah when held there, a separate women's section, and ablution facilities. Community members travel to a larger central mosque for the major Eid prayers while using this neighbourhood mosque for daily worship and sometimes for the Friday Jumuah depending on its status. Programmes include the five daily prayers, Qur'an and tajwid classes for children taught by local ustadz, Islamic education, and community gatherings for marriages, funerals, and aqiqah celebrations for newborns. The adhan called five times daily by the muadhin carries through the surrounding lanes, calling neighbours from their homes, workshops, and nearby shops. Ramadan transforms the mosque into a hub of nightly devotion with tarawih prayers, communal iftars where families bring dishes of Nigerian cuisine to share, Qur'an recitation sessions, and the quiet spiritual work of the blessed month lived out in this small but faithful corner of Ibadan's vast Muslim landscape. The mosque stands as one stitch in the rich tapestry of devotional life that characterises Ibadan's Muslim identity across its neighbourhoods. The muadhin of Pelusheriki Mosque is known throughout the neighbourhood for his particularly beautiful voice, and some residents plan their daily schedules around hearing his call for Fajr or Maghrib, finding in the unhurried dignity of his adhan a moment of transcendence that carries them through the demands of ordinary urban life and reminds them that worship is the true purpose of their existence.
