کے بارے میں

UCH Mosque serves the University College Hospital community in Ibadan, one of Nigeria's foremost teaching hospitals, established in 1957 as the clinical wing of the University of Ibadan and long a flagship institution of Nigerian medical care and medical education. The hospital's Muslim community, including doctors, nurses, medical students, administrative staff, patients, and visiting family members, benefits from having a dedicated mosque on the hospital grounds where prayers can be performed amid the demands of medical work or the anxieties of seeking care. The mosque fills an essential role in the spiritual welfare of those passing through the hospital, providing a quiet refuge for reflection and prayer. Islamic tradition places high value on the care of the sick, with visiting the ill being a duty of every Muslim and supplication for the recovery of the sick being among the rewarded deeds, and a mosque on hospital grounds enables worshippers to combine these duties with the fulfilment of their own ritual obligations. The structure typically features a purpose built prayer hall carpeted and oriented toward the qibla, a mihrab, a mimbar, a separate women's section, and ablution facilities adapted to the needs of hospital users including those with mobility constraints. The adhan called at prayer times serves as a welcome reminder to staff and visitors amid the busy hospital environment to pause for a few minutes of spiritual grounding. The mosque offers the five daily prayers with Friday Jumuah gathering, Qur'an recitation, brief tazkirah lectures, counselling for patients and families, and janazah prayers for Muslim patients who have passed away. Ramadan at UCH Mosque is a particularly meaningful season as hospital staff and patients fast together, with iftars organised for those on duty during the Maghrib call, tarawih prayers in the evenings, and a heightened atmosphere of spiritual reflection across the hospital's Muslim community. UCH Mosque plays a particularly poignant role during moments of patient suffering and bereavement, offering a quiet space where anxious family members waiting through long surgeries or difficult treatments can find the solace of prayer and Qur'an recitation, and where janazah prayers for Muslim patients who have passed on are conducted with dignity before the body is taken for burial, a ministry of pastoral care that distinguishes hospital mosques from ordinary neighbourhood institutions.
