کے بارے میں

UI's Mosque, the central mosque of the University of Ibadan campus, serves one of Nigeria's oldest and most prestigious universities, founded in 1948 as a college of the University of London and elevated to full independent university status in 1962. The University of Ibadan has produced generations of leading Nigerian intellectuals, professionals, and public figures across virtually every field, and its Muslim community of students, faculty, and staff includes both indigenous Yoruba Muslims and Muslims from across Nigeria drawn to the university for its academic excellence. The campus mosque serves this community as a focal point for spiritual life amid the demanding pursuit of higher learning, providing a venue for the five daily prayers, Friday Jumuah gathering, and special religious observances. The structure is a substantial purpose built mosque with a prominent dome, a minaret, an expansive forecourt, and a generous interior prayer hall carpeted and oriented toward the qibla, decorated with Arabic calligraphy and Islamic geometric patterns, furnished with a mihrab and mimbar, and provided with a separate women's section for female students and staff. Ablution facilities serve the large crowds that gather on Fridays when the imam delivers the khutbah in Arabic and English. The mosque hosts a rich programme of religious and intellectual activities including daily Qur'an recitation, tafsir sessions, fiqh lessons in the Maliki tradition, halaqa circles on seerah and Islamic history, Arabic language classes, Islamic student society meetings, guest lectures by visiting scholars, and welfare initiatives. The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria chapter at the university uses the mosque as a base for its activities. Ramadan sees the mosque at its most active with nightly tarawih prayers often led by student huffaz, community iftars bringing students together across faculties, Qur'an khatm sessions, and itikaf during the blessed final ten nights. Eid prayers draw thousands to the mosque and adjacent grounds in festive celebration. The University of Ibadan mosque has hosted many historically significant events in Nigerian Muslim life including scholarly conferences, the visits of distinguished international ulama, and the formative meetings of key Muslim student organisations that have shaped Nigerian Islamic life across the post independence decades, making it not just a campus facility but a site of national religious importance.
