کے بارے میں
The Ahmadiyya Mosque on Onituwo street in the Akerebiata quarter of Ilorin, Kwara state, Nigeria, sits just off the Okiki Model School and behind a local filling station in the Oko Erin ward. It belongs to one of the oldest religious societies of Yorubaland, established in the early twentieth century when local scholars and traders in Lagos and Ilorin embraced the movement. Ilorin itself occupies a special place in West African Islamic memory: founded as the southernmost emirate of the Sokoto caliphate in the early nineteenth century, its ulama built libraries of manuscripts and trained generations of Arabic teachers whose influence spread across Yorubaland. The mosque reflects the practical West African urban idiom: a painted concrete structure with a corrugated metal roof, a small crescent capped minaret, louvred windows to catch the harmattan breeze, and a forecourt shaded by mango and paw paw trees that offer respite during the hot afternoons. Inside, the prayer hall is floored in rush mats and simple carpets, and the mihrab is marked by a painted arch with Quranic verses in green on white. Ceiling fans turn through the hot afternoons. The congregation is drawn from the surrounding streets of Oko Erin and Akerebiata, a mix of traders from the Oja Oba market, teachers from Okiki school, and young families who have settled in the expanding southern neighbourhoods of the city. Daily prayers follow the Yoruba West African pace, with the imam reciting in a clear cadence. Jumu'ah gathers men in agbada and kaftan, with sermons delivered in Yoruba and punctuated by Arabic verses, often invoking blessings on the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Ramadan brings nightly tarawih and shared evening meals of rice, moin moin, and pap. Eid prayer spreads onto the street under the wide West African sky. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times. Nearby stand the central mosque of Ilorin with its broad white domes, the emir's palace with its elaborately carved doors, the old town pottery quarter where traditional vessels are still shaped by hand, the Sobi hill overlooking the city, and the Asa river dam a short drive west of the city.
