کے بارے میں

Ita Amodu General Mosque on Old Yidi Road in the Oko Erin ward of Ilorin serves a long established Yoruba Muslim congregation in Kwara state. Ilorin is one of the senior Islamic cities of Nigeria, founded in the early nineteenth century as the southernmost emirate under the authority of the Sokoto caliphate, and it remains a recognised centre of Arabic scholarship whose ulama have influenced Quranic education across Yorubaland and beyond. The Oko Erin neighbourhood sits on the western fringe of the city, and the Ita Amodu name identifies a particular junction or gathering square within the quarter that gave its name to the mosque. Old Yidi Road is a historic thoroughfare recalling the Eid prayer grounds, since Yidi in Yoruba is an adaptation of the Arabic Eid, the days of communal prayer and feasting. Architecturally the mosque is a generous example of Ilorin urban masjid design: a plastered concrete box painted white and green, a rectangular prayer hall with ceiling fans turning through the heat, a pair of modest minarets capped with crescents, louvred windows to catch the afternoon breeze, and a shaded forecourt paved in terrazzo where children gather after classes. Inside, the qibla wall is faced in simple tilework with calligraphy of the testimony of faith. The congregation is drawn from the streets of Oko Erin and Akerebiata, with a particularly strong showing from the Yoruba Muslim elders who have made this their neighbourhood mosque for decades. Daily prayers maintain the steady Yoruba rhythm. Jumu'ah fills the hall, with sermons delivered in Yoruba and punctuated by Arabic verses, frequently recalling the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and his compassion for the poor and the traveller. Ramadan brings nightly tarawih and community iftars of akara, moin moin, and pap. Eid prayer spills onto the Old Yidi Road itself. Close by stand the central Ilorin mosque, the emir's palace, the Dada pottery quarter, the Esie museum with its ancient stone figures, the Sobi hill overlooking the city, and the Asa river dam a short drive west of the historic town where locals enjoy weekend picnics.
