Masjid Jamek Tun Hussein Onn is located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, named in honour of Tun Hussein Onn, the third Prime Minister of Malaysia, who served from 1976 to 1981. The naming of a mosque after a statesman reflects the Malaysian tradition of commemorating national leaders through civic and religious institutions, and Tun Hussein Onn is remembered with particular warmth for his moderate leadership and his commitment to national unity. As a jamek mosque, the building is authorised to host the Friday congregational prayer, and serves its surrounding kariah with the full range of Malaysian Islamic institutional services. The architecture reflects the Malaysian mosque tradition, with a central dome, a minaret, a wide courtyard, a well-appointed prayer hall with carpet, mihrab, and minbar, and a separate women's section with its own entrance and facilities. The imam is a respected local figure, leading the daily prayers, delivering the Friday khutbah, and officiating at the important life events of the community. The mosque committee handles the practical affairs and the community's religious and charitable programmes. Religious education is active: kelas mengaji for children in the afternoons, a tahfiz programme for Qur'an memorisation, women's halaqat, and regular ceramah by visiting ulama.
