کے بارے میں
Known by the triple designation Zawiyatu Darqatul Tijjaniyya, Masallacin Yan Izala, and Masjid Abubakar Sadik, this Kano institution reflects an intriguing layered history in which the same building has served different devotional constituencies through the decades. The zawiya name invokes a tariqa whose spiritual chain spread across Nigeria through the preaching of Shaykh Ibrahim Niass of Kaolack and his disciples. The Izala designation refers to the Jamaatu Izalatil Bidah wa Iqamatis Sunnah movement founded in the 1970s in northern Nigeria. The third name, Masjid Abubakar Sadik, honours the first caliph Abu bakr as Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, whose quiet courage is a source of enduring inspiration. Kano itself is among the most ancient Muslim cities of West Africa, its Kano Chronicle recording the arrival of Islam in the fourteenth century, and its old walls, the Emir's palace, the Great Mosque and the Kurmi Market still anchor a richly textured religious culture. Scholars such as Shaykh Muhammadu Rumfa, Shaykh Abdullahi Maikano of Jos, and the many ulama of Kano and Sokoto have shaped an influential Hausa Fulani learning tradition. The regional architectural vocabulary favours earthen walls rendered with traditional lime, thick piers supporting flat rooftops, decorative Hausa plasterwork in patterns of chevrons and rosettes, and compact minarets set beside tree shaded courtyards. Five daily prayers are offered, Friday gatherings draw traders, craftsmen and students of the old city, the khutbah is delivered in Hausa with generous Arabic citations, tarawih throughout Ramadan fills the hall with vivid recitation, and Eid mornings bring the durbar procession to the Emir's court nearby. Qur'an and Arabic classes run through the week for both children and adult learners. Travellers visiting the dye pits of Kofar Mata, the Gidan Makama museum or the Emir's palace will find this mosque a particularly rich specimen of Kano's overlapping devotional histories. The annual maulud procession in Rabi al Awwal, beloved across Kano since the days of Emir Muhammadu Rumfa, winds past this mosque beneath festive banners and the deep drums of the royal kakaki horn, linking every celebrant to centuries of Hausa religious memory.
