کے بارے میں
Named in honour of Sheikh Abdullah bin Husayn al Ahmar, the influential Yemeni tribal leader, statesman, and political figure of the late twentieth century, this jamaa in Khamir of the Omran governorate preserves the memory of a man whose name was intertwined with the modern political history of northern Yemen. Sheikh al Ahmar, may God whom God's mercy cover, acted as the paramount chief of the powerful Hashid tribal confederation and held senior positions in Yemen's political institutions over several decades, navigating the complex alignments of tribe, religion, and state that have defined Yemeni public life. Khamir itself is an ancient town in the highlands of northwestern Yemen, known historically for its Wednesday market that has drawn traders from across the Hashid territories for generations, and for its proximity to some of the most venerable sites of Yemeni Islamic heritage. The Omran governorate extends northward from Sanaa toward the Sa'dah plateau, its landscape defined by terraced fields carved into limestone ridges, fortified villages crowning rocky outcrops, and ancient fortresses whose towers overlook valleys famed for qat, coffee, and grain. Architecturally the jamaa reflects the distinctive Yemeni highland idiom, rammed earth and stone walls rising in tapered form, crowned by whitewashed serrated crenellations that contrast brilliantly against the warm tones of the mud brick, a compact minaret tower rising beside the prayer hall, horseshoe arched windows admitting the clear highland light, and interior surfaces rendered in whitewashed lime. Inside, the prayer hall is floored with woven palm fibre mats and simple carpets, the mihrab is rendered in whitewashed plaster with inscribed Qur'anic verses, and the pulpit is of carved regional hardwood. Five five prayers mark the pace of the highland town, Jumu'ah congregations gather on the weekly market day, and through ramadan the community opens its fasts with Yemeni specialities such as saltah, haneed lamb, bint al Sahn sweetened with honey, fatta bread with ghee, and qishr coffee. Eid prayers fill the open ground. Travellers who have visited Yemen in more peaceful times have found the Omran highlands among the most atmospheric landscapes of Arabia, their terraced fields and fortified towns representing one of the great agricultural civilisations of the peninsula. The jamaa endures as a dignified anchor of Khamir's communal life, its continuing activities sustaining the distinctive highland Yemeni traditions of devotion, hospitality, and tribal solidarity whose depth and resilience have survived the immense hardships facing the country to continue sustaining the faith of the upland communities.
