درباره

Mosquée Ennour in Lomme, part of the Lille metropolitan area, carries the Arabic name An-Nur, meaning The Light, one of the ninety-nine beautiful names of Allah. Surah An-Nur, the twenty-fourth chapter of the Holy Quran, contains the famous Ayat an-Nur, the Verse of Light, which describes Allah as the Light of the Heavens and the Earth, comparing His light to a niche containing a lamp within a glass that resembles a brilliant star, lit from a blessed olive tree neither eastern nor western, whose oil would almost shine even if no fire touched it. This verse has inspired Muslim mystics, scholars, and artists throughout the centuries, and naming a mosque Ennour evokes the aspiration to be a place of divine light in the community, illuminating hearts through prayer, Quran study, and ethical conduct. Lomme, now part of the commune of Lille in the Hauts-de-France region, hosts a Muslim population drawn from diverse backgrounds including Maghreb, sub-Saharan African, and Middle Eastern communities. The mosque serves this community through the five daily prayers, Friday jumu'ah services, and a calendar of educational and charitable programs. Facilities typically include an ablution area, a main prayer hall oriented toward the qiblah, a women's prayer area, classrooms for Quran and Arabic instruction, and administrative offices. The imam leads the five daily prayers and delivers Friday khutbahs in French and Arabic. During Ramadan, the mosque becomes especially vibrant, with tarawih prayers drawing capacity crowds each evening. Iftar meals are served communally, typically beginning with dates and water following Prophetic tradition, before proceeding to soup, salads, main courses, and desserts. The Laylatul Qadr observances on the odd nights of the final ten days bring particularly large crowds for night prayer, Quran recitation, and supplication. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha prayers draw festively dressed families, and the mosque organizes Qurbani sacrifices on Eid al-Adha. Madrasah programs teach children Quran, Arabic, Islamic history, and moral instruction, while adult education circles meet regularly. The mosque's leadership has navigated the complex regulatory environment surrounding French religious organizations with care, balancing the need for transparent governance, financial accountability, and cooperation with French authorities while preserving the religious independence and community autonomy that Islamic institutions require to fulfill their spiritual and educational missions.
