کے بارے میں

Masjid Liwiti is a community mosque in Magomeni, Dar es Salaam, its name drawn from the Liwiti sub-locality and worn as a reminder of the mosque's firmly rooted place within the neighbourhood it serves. The building offers the five daily prayers in congregation, gathers a strong Friday crowd and supports a small programme of religious education and community activities. The prayer hall is typical of Tanzanian coastal mosques: a clean, well-swept floor with mats laid out in rows, a modest minbar, a clear mihrab oriented to Makkah, and separate facilities for women. The ablution area flows reliably throughout the day, and the courtyard offers space for worshippers to gather and greet each other before and after salah. Friday khutbahs are delivered in Kiswahili, anchored in verses of Qur'an and well-known hadith, and often touch on themes that matter to the local congregation — the upbringing of children, honest earning, the rights of parents and neighbours, and the proper handling of disputes within the community. The imam is generally known personally to most regular worshippers, which lends a family quality to the mosque's atmosphere. The masjid supports an afternoon Qur'an programme for children, covering recitation, tajweed, the articles of faith and the fiqh of worship, and occasionally hosts evening lectures for adults on topics relevant to modern urban life. During Ramadan the activity expands significantly, with full taraweeh, communal iftars for the poor and the travelling, Qur'an completion events and a general sense of heightened devotion. Eid days draw the entire neighbourhood in brightly coloured clothes, and the courtyard becomes a scene of greetings and shared meals. Visitors to Magomeni are welcome to attend prayer at Masjid Liwiti, and the mosque's upkeep and teaching work are supported by the quiet generosity of local worshippers and their friends further afield. In a quiet corner of the masjid, older worshippers sometimes gather after fajr to read a small portion from a Kiswahili translation of Imam al-Nawawi's Forty Hadith, discussing the meanings among themselves in an unhurried manner that has become a beloved fixture of the mosque's morning atmosphere.
