کے بارے میں

Serving the south western neighbourhoods of Mississauga in Ontario, the Muslim Welfare Centre combines a working mosque with a large food bank, serving hot meals, hosting daily prayers, and running social services that support both Muslim and non Muslim neighbours across the Greater Toronto Area. The centre was founded in the 1990s by community members who recognised that the Prophetic teaching to feed the hungry, honour the orphan, and welcome the stranger called for organised charitable institutions in the Canadian context, not only personal acts of kindness. Over three decades the centre has risen into one of the foremost Muslim charities in Canada, with branches in Toronto, Whitby, and Peterborough.

Mississauga itself is a relatively young city, amalgamated from smaller townships in 1974 and grown to become Canada's sixth largest urban centre. Its Muslim population, once a small group of South Asian and Arab immigrants in the 1970s, has expanded into a community of more than one hundred thousand drawn from across the Islamic world, from Syria and Egypt to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bangladesh, and West Africa. The city's religious landscape today includes dozens of mosques, Islamic schools, and community centres alongside its historic Christian, Jewish, and Sikh institutions.

The building itself is modern and practical, finished in warm brown brick with large arched windows, a modest dome of green copper rising above the prayer hall, and a discreet minaret that carries a crescent rather than a speaker, respecting municipal acoustic rules. The main chamber opens bright and carpeted in deep green, its Prayer niche inset and trimmed with wooden panels of Thuluth calligraphy praising God and invoking blessings on the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. A large multipurpose hall, commercial kitchen, and pantry occupy the lower floor, where thousands of food parcels are prepared each week.

Daily prayers weave around a constant bustle of volunteers sorting groceries, packing hot meals for the homeless, and greeting arriving families with quiet dignity. Ramadan brings especially long days of service, with iftar open to all, Eid bazaars, and toy drives that welcome children from every background.
