کے بارے میں

Rising in the small market town of Mobidougou in the Kayes region of western Mali, the Mosque of Mobidougou, locally known as Mosquee de Mobidougou, serves the surrounding Soninke, Bambara, and Fulani farming villages along the upper Senegal river basin. Mali carries one of the richest Islamic heritages in West Africa, reaching back through the scholarly traditions of Timbuktu and Djenne to the empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. Kayes itself lies along an ancient trade route linking the Atlantic coast to the interior savannahs, and its riverside towns and villages have hosted Muslim teachers and traders for many centuries under the baobab trees and red laterite earth.

The mosque takes its name simply from the town it serves, following a common Malian custom in which each settlement's primary masjid shares the identity of the community around it. Such an arrangement reflects a teaching of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, who encouraged his Companions, may God be pleased with them, to build a masjid for every neighbourhood so that the call to prayer could be heard by all. In the West African context, a town mosque is also a place of learning, dispute resolution, and hospitality for travellers arriving along the dusty roads.

Architecturally, the masjid reflects the Sudano Sahelian tradition typical of western Malian masjids. Thick walls of mud brick, plastered with earthen render, carry wooden beams that project from the facade and serve both as structural support and as scaffolding for regular replastering after the rainy season. A modest minaret or tower rises above the prayer hall, small openings admit filtered light, and the carpeted interior stays remarkably cool even during the hottest months of the dry season.

Farmers, herders, market traders, and teachers gather here for the five daily prayers and for Jumu'ah, and the taraweeh of Ramadan draws families from across Mobidougou and neighbouring hamlets. On this page visitors to the Kayes region will find the current prayer times, address, and practical notes that help every traveller crossing western Mali locate this dignified Sahelian masjid and share in its steady, welcoming rhythm of community worship beneath the wide skies and shaded courtyards of the upper Senegal valley year after year.
