کے بارے میں
Abdul Kareem Sodunke Memorial Mosque in Oshodi, a bustling working class neighbourhood in the heart of Lagos known for its chaotic yet vibrant markets, bus terminals, and commercial energy, honours the memory of a man whose contributions to the local Muslim community prompted his loved ones and the broader congregation to commemorate him through the founding or renaming of this mosque. Memorial mosques are an important feature of Nigerian Muslim life, serving as living monuments to pious individuals whose charity, leadership, or scholarly contributions shaped the communities they served, with the ongoing prayers offered in the mosque serving as sadaqah jariyah whose reward continues to flow to the deceased even after death. Oshodi itself is one of Lagos's iconic neighbourhoods, a crossroads of commerce and transit where migrants from across Nigeria converge, and the Muslim community there draws its membership from Yoruba Muslims indigenous to southwestern Nigeria alongside Hausa, Fulani, and other northerners who have made Lagos their home. The mosque serves this diverse community with the five daily prayers, Friday Jumuah gathering, Qur'an and tajwid classes, Islamic education for children, marriage and funeral services, and welfare distribution to needy families. The prayer hall is carpeted and oriented toward the qibla, with a mihrab, a mimbar for the khatib, a separate women's section, and ablution facilities. The adhan called from the mosque carries over the noisy streets of Oshodi calling the faithful from their market stalls and workshops to take a few minutes of quiet devotion amid the bustle. Ramadan at Abdul Kareem Sodunke Memorial Mosque brings the community together for nightly tarawih prayers, iftars featuring local Nigerian dishes such as jollof rice, moi moi, and akara, Qur'an khatm sessions, and itikaf in the final blessed ten nights as worshippers seek Laylatul Qadr. The mosque's welfare initiatives extend to providing school fees for children of deceased community members, following the example of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam who declared that the one who cares for an orphan has a place beside him in paradise, and this sustained charitable work continues to add to the spiritual reward flowing to Alhaji Abdul Kareem Sodunke and to all those who contribute to the mosque's continuing mission.
