کے بارے میں

Serving the large and diverse Muslim population of Scarborough in eastern Toronto, the Scarborough Muslim Association and its Jame Abu Bakr al Siddiq Masjid have grown over decades into one of Ontario's best known centres of Islamic life. The masjid takes its name from Abu Bakr al Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, the closest friend of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and the first caliph who stabilised the young community after the passing of the Messenger. Scarborough itself developed from rural farmland into a multicultural district within Toronto, and its Muslim residents hail from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Somalia, Afghanistan, the Arab world, Indonesia, Bosnia and many other regions, making this mosque a mosaic of faces who pray in unified lines behind a single imam. The building reflects a pragmatic North American adaptation of classical forms, with a green dome, crescent topped minaret style entrance, spacious prayer halls for men and women, classrooms for weekend madrasah, a kitchen for community iftars and parking suited to the Canadian climate. The five daily prayers attract commuters from nearby business parks, taxi drivers, students from the University of Toronto Scarborough campus and families, while Jumu'ah sees multiple back to back services in several languages to accommodate the crowd. Ramadan fills the halls nightly with tarawih prayers, iftar dinners served to hundreds, and laylat al Qadr vigils. The Eid prayers draw thousands onto the surrounding streets, a joyful display of diversity. The centre also runs janazah services, marriage contracts, counselling and youth programmes. Visitors and new Muslims are warmly welcomed, and the masjid sits within reach of the Scarborough Town Centre mall, the Rouge National Urban Park and the Toronto lakeshore, making it an accessible landmark of Canadian Muslim life. The women's section is spacious and provides its own dedicated entrance, ablution facilities and childcare room, a thoughtful accommodation that has made the masjid a favoured gathering place for sisters running busy working lives across Scarborough. Weekly halaqat in English for new Muslims, revert support groups and counselling services for marriage and mental health are organised through the association's community services department, reflecting a mature understanding that a Canadian masjid must serve every dimension of its congregation's existence.
