Masjid Al Mahabbah, whose name translates from Arabic as the Mosque of Love, serves the community of Skudai on the outskirts of Johor Bahru with a message carried in its very name, that the worship of Allah is grounded in love, for Him, for His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam, and for fellow believers. Love as a spiritual station has been discussed by scholars of the heart from Imam Al Ghazali to Ibn Al Qayyim, and naming a mosque after this station reflects a deep aspiration among its founders and trustees. The mosque is built in modern Malaysian style with a whitewashed exterior, green domed roof, covered verandahs wrapping the prayer hall, and a tall minaret serving as a landmark for the surrounding neighbourhood. Inside the main prayer hall the floor is carpeted and marked with prayer lines, and copies of the Qur'an and tafsir volumes fill the shelves along the back wall, available for any worshipper wishing to read between prayers. A comfortable women's section separated by a partition allows sisters to worship in a modest and peaceful environment, with its own entrance and ablution facility. The mosque is a hub of learning in its area, offering weekly classes in Qur'an tajwid, introductory Arabic, fiqh according to the Shafi'i madhhab which predominates in Malaysia, and circles on the seerah of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam. Youth gatherings are organised regularly, encouraging the next generation to build strong bonds of brotherhood grounded in faith. During Ramadan, Masjid Al Mahabbah becomes a centre of nightly tarawih prayers and iftar gatherings drawing residents from across several tamans. The Eid festivals fill the mosque courtyard with worshippers in festive attire exchanging greetings of taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum, and the spirit of love implied by the mosque's name shines through in every embrace. Monthly community outings organised by the mosque committee take congregation members to visit sick or elderly Muslims in the area, to attend the tahlil gatherings held in homes to remember deceased loved ones, and to assist needy families with zakat and sadaqah distributions, all in keeping with the mosque's founding name of Al Mahabbah and its insistence that love for Allah inevitably expresses itself in love and service toward fellow believers, particularly the most vulnerable among them whose welfare the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam placed as a special trust upon the Muslim community.
