کے بارے میں

Within the eastern Libyan port city of Tobruk, Masjid Ali ibn Abi Talib wa Khalid ibn al Walid honours two towering figures of early Islamic history in a single dedication. The city of Tobruk itself is ancient, known to the Greeks as Antipyrgos, later serving as a Roman garrison and a Byzantine bishopric before passing into Muslim hands in the seventh century during the westward expansion of the faith. The deep natural harbour made it a prized stop on coastal shipping routes for over two millennia, and in the twentieth century its name became internationally famous because of the long siege and decisive battles of the Second World War. Beyond those modern memories, Tobruk remains above all a Libyan Muslim community tied to the fig trees, olive groves, and sea winds of the Cyrenaican coast.
The mosque's twofold dedication is striking. Ali ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with him), cousin and son in law of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, carried the title Bab al Ilm, the Gate of Knowledge, for his depth of understanding of the Qur'an. Khalid ibn al Walid (may God be pleased with him), honoured by the Prophet with the title Sayf Allah al Maslul, the Drawn Sword of God, led the Muslim armies to remarkable victories at Yarmuk and beyond. Pairing their names in one masjid reminds every worshipper that knowledge and courage walk together in the path of faith.
Libyan coastal mosques typically feature whitewashed walls, simple square minarets, green domes, and interiors cooled by sea breezes flowing through latticed windows. This masjid follows that familiar pattern. Woven mats and carpets cover the prayer hall, while the mihrab carries modest calligraphy invoking God's names. Jumu'ah prayers fill the building, Ramadan brings long tarawih recitations, and Eid mornings overflow with families bearing sweets, dates, and fresh fruit. Accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha at this mosque in Tobruk appear on this page, allowing every resident of Sha'biyat al Butnan and every visitor to the Cyrenaican coast to plan their worship with confidence.
