کے بارے میں

Gracing the urban quarter of Tungi in Dhaka division of Bangladesh, Hazi Ramzan Ali Munshi Central Jame Masjid serves a densely populated community that blends industrial workers, rickshaw pullers, office clerks, and students from nearby colleges into a single Friday congregation. Tungi lies on the northern fringe of the Dhaka metropolitan area, close to the Turag river, and is world famous among Muslims for hosting the Bishwa Ijtema, one of the largest annual gatherings of Muslims anywhere, where millions of worshippers come together for three days of prayer, preaching, and reflection. The Tungi neighbourhood thus carries a particular religious atmosphere shaped by decades of mass devotional assembly.
The masjid is named after Hazi Ramzan Ali Munshi, a local benefactor who performed the Hajj to Makkah and then dedicated his wealth to establish a central jame masjid for the benefit of his neighbours. The Arabic word hajji and the Bengali form hazi are honorifics reserved for those who have completed the Hajj pilgrimage, and in Bangladeshi culture this title carries weight, for it indicates a journey of submission before God, the lord of the worlds, at the house he raised with Ibrahim, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, taught that an accepted Hajj has no reward less than Paradise. To name a central mosque after one such hajji is to honour the life lived after the pilgrimage has ended.
Architecturally the building reflects contemporary Bangladeshi urban mosque design. A multi storey concrete prayer hall rises above ground floor shops, tiled arches frame the qiblah wall, a modest minaret carries loudspeakers to summon the working neighbourhood to prayer, and the interior is lit by daylight through large windows. Women worship on an upper floor with its own wudu facilities. The Friday khutbah is delivered in Bengali, and Ramadan transforms the mosque into the heart of nightly iftars featuring pyaju, beguni, haleem, and sweet dates. Accurate daily prayer times for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha are provided on this page to help every worshipper of Tungi and every visitor from elsewhere in Dhaka.
